My parents and I were watching TV on a Friday night, when we suddenly got a call from my younger brother. He was stranded because his car broke down and won’t start! We instantly took the other car and headed to where he was! Luckily, he wasn’t injured, but the car was certainly in need of repair.

We then contacted a towing truck, and had the car brought to a car repair shop. After hours, the car was fixed, however, it was expensive and it sure left our dad’s pocket empty! My uncle’s job was going away on business trips.  He have been to various countries and cities all over the world, and stayed at the most glamorous and luxurious hotels!  After his fulfilling his official business, he still have enough time to do a little sight-seeing and buying a few souvenirs.  If there  is one thing my uncle loved, that is touring and exploring the vast and unique culture of each country.

My uncle was even planning to visit Argentina again, this time, purely a leisure trip, and he is planning to stay at one of the Hoteles en Buenos Aires or Hoteles en Bariloche. And on that trip, my uncle is planning to have a grand Turismo en Argentina!

Every college has its beloved mascot. Each one serves as the symbol of good luck for its respective school whether it’s an animal, a person or a thing. Alumni and staff alike glean a sense of unity, loyalty, and probably more than anything else, inspiration each time the mascot of their college takes the stage. There are arrays of unique mascots that have come to call colleges all across the world their home. The following, however, are 10 of the weirdest college mascots you’ll ever see. Check them out.

So when is the last time you heard the words college mascot, and had an image of a slug come to mind? If you answered never, you’re not alone. Sammy the Banana Slug, the mascot of the University of California Santa Cruz, has got to be one of the weirdest college mascots of all time. The alumni of UC Santa Cruz rallied together, and were able to change the minds of the officials at the college who had originally planned to have a sea lion as the school’s mascot. The students won, and Sammy was born.

Artie the Fighting Artichoke is the mascot for the Scottsdale Community College in Arizona. Artie got his rise to fame when the students of the college revolted against the school administration for providing the majority of the school’s funding to the athletics department rather than the academic department. They chose three highly non-traditional mascots for the students to pick from to show their distaste toward the administration. Artie won because he had a heart.

Evergreen State College in Washington has Speedy the Goeduck as its mascot. Although the name might make you think Goeduck is in the waterfowl family, he’s actually a mollusk. The mascot is appropriate for the college as the mollusk is indigenous to the Northwest. Speedy is certainly a weird college mascot, but those who attend Evergreen State College consider him one of the family.

Although the Fighting Pickles started out as a joke in the early 1970’s, the students of North Carolina School of the Arts chose the Fighting Pickles from a pool of possible mascots. Some would say that the Fighting Pickles is probably the most ludicrous college mascot in the history of college mascots.

Purdue University was first associated with the term, boiler maker, in the late 1800’s when a newspaper dubbed the sports team “Burly Boiler Makers” which seemed fitting to their engineering roots. When the college took on an official mascot in 1937 the engineering angle was most popular. Hence, the birth of The Boilermaker Special, a train that was as big as a car and was actually driven. Today, the boilermaker special has been sized down to a smaller indoor version that fans enjoy.

Although there are multiple versions, Delta State University chose the Fighting Okra as their mascot because the vegetable is green, the same as their school colors. It is also speculated that they chose the okra because it was ugly, and from the south, and would serve to intimidate their competitors. The jury is still out as to whether their choice is affective.

The University of California – Irvine, adopted the Anteaters as their official mascot in the early 1960’s. To this day, the now-famous “Give ‘em tongue”, is still heard being chanted at sporting events.

Though not necessarily weird, Presbyterian College’s mascot, Blue Hose is certainly unique. It’s not every day you get to see a Scotsman dressed in a kilt and blue stockings prancing around a sporting field.
